Silos of a Rural Boy’s Mind

Silos of a Rural Boy’s Mind is a powerful one-man theatre piece that explores the inner world of a young boy growing up on rural farms in South Africa. Through poetry, storytelling, physical theatre, and raw emotional honesty, the play journeys through memories of labour, poverty, masculinity, silence, and survival.

Set against the backdrop of vineyards, workers’ houses, pesticide exposure, and towering grain silos, the piece follows one boy’s struggle to understand what it means to become a man in a world where emotions are buried and dreams are treated like weakness. As he moves between childhood memories, family tensions, farm life, friendship, violence, and hope, the audience is taken deep into the “silos” of his mind — the hidden spaces where grief, rage, fear, and dreams are stored.
