Ride the Light@Night

Clarens townsquare · Clarens

drama 26 Sep · Opens 26 Sep · R100–R200

Clarens is known as one of the safest towns in South Africa. Experience that during a night ride. Simply relax, pedal, and take it all in: the illuminated streets, the installations drifting past, and the mountains silhouetted against a sky full of stars. And then there's the sight of the group itself.

Bikes strung with lights move together through town like a slow river of colour. People stop on the pavement to watch. Ride The Light@Night is a wonderful new initiative in Clarens. The 45-minute ride is led by South African cycling champion Carla Oberholzer along a marshalled route through Clarens and Kgubetswana.

No racing, no pressure, just a steady roll through the night. Bring your own bicycle and dress it up with lights, or rent one of our 25 LED-lit festival bikes. The rental fleet is small and goes quickly, so book ahead if you want one. We gather at the Clarens Festival of Lights Ticket Booth on the Square of Lights for check-in and a short safety briefing before setting off.

Public parking is available in and around Clarens Town Square, just a short walk from the departure point. Please note:

Advance booking is required. Riders must be 16 years or older. Gather at the Clar
